From a chance to learn circus tricks to a real life mermaid swimming into the harbour, there’s loads of fun to be had for all the family at Porthleven Food Festival!
Here are our top five suggestions.
1. Get crafty…
Kid’s (big and small), are you team ‘Mermaid’? Or team ‘Shark’?
Release your inner sea creature and head to the Sticky Finger’s crafting workshop on site to create your best Mermaid or Shark costume for the pre-show kids parade and fancy dress competition in the Big Top. Be imaginative in your re-use of your plastic rubbish is or unleash your creativity and make a plastic-free fancy dress.
2. Come to the Circus
Airfish Circus have created a special show to promote and support our 2018 Anti Plastic Fantastic! theme AND surprise, and delight your eyes, (and your kids), as much as the tempting munchables on offer all around.
You can also try your hand at a circus trick or two too in one of the aerial, or ground-based circus workshops on site.
3. Meet a mermaid
Don’t miss the moment a real-life mermaid comes to visit. The St Ives mermaid will swim into the harbour on Saturday morning so keep a weather-eye out.
4. Hunt for Treasure
The shops on Fore Street are holding a treasure trail for all ages. Collect a trail leaflet from our info stand on the Harbour Head then collect the letters from shop windows to reveal the secret password. Then make your way up to the Atlantic Inn and hand your completed sheet to landlady Leigh to receive your treasure!
5. Learn about how to protect wildlife from plastic
Author Ellie Jackson has written two brilliant books for children about the effects of ocean plastic on the habitats and lives of a turtle and a puffin. As well as telling a story the books also offer fun and friendly advice on how you and your family can make a difference. You can meet Ellie in the Literary and Acoustic tent at 3:15pm on Sunday and find out more.
