Porthleven local Ross Sloan started his career working for the Thistle Hotel Group in Stratford-upon-Avon. After time spent working there and in London he was drawn back to Cornwall where he took the role of Head Chef at the The Hazelphron Inn of the young age of 21. Here is where he won Dining Pub of the Year 2001 and 2004.

Ross spent some time away working on super yachts and within private households, before returning to Cornwall to become Head Chef at The Mount Haven Hotel. Developing the hotels success and accolades he gained awards such as Best Foodie Hotel.

In 2020, Ross was part of the creation behind ‘Landed Porthleven’ – a sustainable shell and fish takeaway with the ethos to revolutionise the British fish and chip shop scene right here in the village.

Ross is now heading up the kitchen at Kota Restaurant focusing on working closely with local farmers, fisherman and suppliers which enables him to create fun accessible foods supporting his strong passion of zero waste and sustainability.
