After our first full day on Food Festival Friday was such a success last year we’re doing it again with a packed programme of events bringing food, family fun and frolics to the port. Here’s some of the highlights…
9am – Opening parade
At 9am the children of Porthleven School will parade down from the school to our Family Zone on the Moors Field. They’ll be singing, waving flags and joining in with crafts and activities — and everyone’s welcome!
10am, 1pm, 3:30pm – Sketchbook Workshops
Walking sketchbook workshops with local artist Melanie Chadwick. create a unique memento of the festival. More info and book.
11am – 5pm – Cocktail Workshops & Beer Tasting – Port & Oyster
Cocktail workshops from some of Cornwall’s finest drinks producers. Learn how to make the Perfect G&T, mix a great cocktail or try a beer tasting session. Book here.
11am-3pm – Farmer’s Market in the Chef’s Theatre
Helston Farmer’s Market will decamp for the day and bring their wares to the Chef’s Theatre. It’s the perfect excuse to ditch the supermarket for the weekend and grab your food from some fantastic local suppliers.
10am – 7pm – Street Food and the South West Market
Explore the flavours of the world with street food around the harbour and don’t miss the Moors Field where artisan food and drink suppliers from Cornwall and beyond will be showcasing their goodies in the South West Market. See the exhibitors.
1pm and 5pm – Yoga with Yola – Literary & Acoustic Tent
Located in the Festival’s Literary tent on Food Festival Friday, Yola’s signature sequences will energize your body and mind, getting you weekend ready to kick back and enjoy the festival. Find out more and book.
1:30am – 6pm – Bands on the Lime Kiln Community Stage (supported by BBC Music Introducing)
We’ll be warming up the Lime Kiln stage with an afternoon line up of tops local bands and musicians. Grab a beer or a cider from our specially constructed bar using the old Lime Kiln and enjoy are music by the sea. See the full line up.
3pm – FREE craft workshop for the kids
Make masks, hats and costumes with the circus team in the Moors Field.
From 7pm – Mad Dog Mcrea and The Roustabouts – Shipyard Stage
For our Friday night opener we like to bring in a big name and a party vibe to kick things off with a bang! Mad Dog Mcrea blend a unique mixture of folk rock, pop, gypsy jazz, bluegrass and ‘shake your ass’ music. From self-penned songs of adventure, drinking, love and life, to traditional songs of gypsies, fairies, legless pirates and black flies – Mad Dog never fail to capture the audience with their infectious and energetic performances. From 7pm – Krelys – Port & Oyster
Krelys will play our pop-up pub on Friday evening, bringing ceilidh style Irish fun to the port!
