Did somebody say National Breakfast week?
As brekkie is our favourite meal of the day we decided we’d point out (in no particular order) our top 5 favourite places in Porthleven to get up and go for the most important meal of the day (or grab brunch after a lie-in if you prefer…)
Nauti But Ice
Nauti is a bit of a local institution. Open daily from 9 their tasty surprises include eggs benedict (served with smoked, streaky bacon and gradvalax salmon – the joy!), a full vegan brekkie and gluten free toast.
Our favourite way: Origin Coffee (they roast just up the road in Helston) in a flat white, the sofa by the window, a good book and an overnight oats served with baked apple, cinnamon, pumpkin seeds and honey. Yummy!
Kota Kai
Weekends from 9:30-11:30 it’s Kai Brunch o’clock. From zingy grapefruit with grapefruit and mint granita, to fluffy pancakes to a home smoked salmon fillet with scramble eggs and avocado this menu is eclectic and packed full of flavour but doesn’t eave out old favourites: like boiled egg and soldiers.
Our favourite way: Vegetarian breakfast: Grilled flat mushrooms, roast tomatoes, scrambled eggs, avocado, grilled sourdough, hash brown, watercress & miso truffle dressing. So good even meat eaters love it!
Twisted Currant
Awesome full English, breakfast rolls, croissants and granola. For a fantastic morning feast (serve from 9) using local ingredients the Twisted Currant is a great go-to. They also have full menus for gluten-free, vegan, low calorie and dairy-free diets.
Our favourite way: Posh toast – we love the toasted bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese. Washed down with a pot of Cornwall’s own Tregothnan tea.
The Hideaway
Whether you want a bacon roll, a bowl of porridge or cornflakes or a full Hungry Hideaway there’s loads of choice at this great value eatery. These guys are also big supporters of the Porthleven anti-plastic drive and if you buy a Refresh Porthleven reusable coffee cup they’ll throw in a free hot drink.
Our favourite way: We love the Moana mix when we’ve dragged ourselves out of bed. Leaves us feeling super healthy!
Seadrift
On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays we’re fans of a brunch stop at Chris’s contemporary café kitchen. Stop off any time between 10m and 2pm and enjoy breakfast rolls, full English or fresh Belgian waffles. Takeaway also available.
Our favourite way: Steak, egg and sauté potatoes after a brisk morning walk along the coast to Loe Bar and back? Oh, go on then.
