Literary & Acoustic Tent – with Ella Squirrell 4:15pm – Saturday
Alex’s film Ode to Pose is a two-part experimental film that examines societal relationships with the camera. The films investigate patterns of reaction within large quantities of people, searching for a visual language of ‘the pose’. Part One sees four hundred photographs of Cornish residents; presented within a flicker effect, the film uses complex algorithms to merge their images, resulting in a detailed survey of the way people pose. Part Two consists of documentation of a social experiment in which participants of the same Cornish town were invited into a room with a camera. Told the camera would take one photograph of them within their allocated 2 minutes in the room, they were instead filmed for the entirety. Unaware of this, they interact with the seemingly inactive camera.
